
CERVICAL SCREENING

Aims
To improve coverage and participation of women who are currently not accessing the National Cervical Screening Programme in a timely manner.
To improve knowledge and promote informed consent around the cervical screening pathway highlighting potential risks, benefits, advantages and disadvantages.
Objectives
To provide:
- Health promotion sessions in the community and workplace on cervical screening. Korean and Chinese health promoters are available.
- "Sisters in Health" initiatives which support community volunteers in the promotion of cervical screening to Maori and Pacific Island women.
- Health professional support on:
- Cervical smear taker training
- Cervical screening updates covering laboratory issues, smear taking technique, NSU policy and direction
- Clinical supervision for trainee smear takers
- Support for primary health care cervical screening services in recall systems and identification of overdue women.
- Language appropriate recall letters in Te Reo, Pacific and Asian languages
- Support women with transport to smear clinics and colposcopy
- Home visits for cervical smears for high priority women and women with disabilities
- Disability access with a hoist and high / low bed on
site
- Resources for the community on:
