WAHINE HAOURA / WOMEN'S HEALTH


Aim: To provide a quality wahine hauora / women's health service in the community that is affordable, accountable and easily accessible for all those who wish to use it.

Objectives:

  • To improve women's knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the process of periods, PMS, menopause, bladder control and osteoporosis.
     
  • To promote wellness and management of periods, PMS, menopause, bladder control and osteoporosis through lifestyle changes and natural remedies.
     
  • To improve women's understanding of the advantages, disadvantages, risks and side effects of natural remedies and hormone replacement therapy.

To Provide:

  • 1500 free individual consultations to women in the Auckland region who:
    - have not had a cervical smear test in five years or more;
    - have never had a cervical smear test;
    - have a community services card and are due a cervical smear test for any reason
     
  • Drop in clinics in community centres and work places throughout Auckland which enable women to access women's health services.
     
  • Women's health education services to women aged 16-69 years in the Auckland region.
     
  • Four women's health days in the Auckland region for women aged 16-69 years.
     
  • Health professional training seminars in order to update staff and health professionals interested in women's health.
     
  • Chinese/Korean women's health promoters to assist with women's health issues for Chinese/Korean women in the community.

WONS can provide talks on cervical screening, breast awareness, periods, contraception, safer sex, PMS, menopause, hormone replacement therapy and osteoporosis.

These talks can be held at your workplace, community centre, local club, church hall, cultural centre, gymnasium or any suitable venue where women require the service.

Smear Parties

Have a group of friends, family / whanau or work mates together and have a smear party in your home or venue of your choice!

Free education on a range of women's health issues, cervical smears performed in the privacy of your on home and kai / food provided.

Home Consultations

Women who have difficulty accessing cervical smears due to disability, lack of transport or similar reason may be able to access a home consultation.
