VACCINATORS' TRAINING COURSES 2008


This course is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under the provisions of the Education Act 1989, and WONS is accredited to teach it.
Course Information - 2 Day Vaccinator Training Course

Course Aims:

  1. The attendees undertaking the course will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and expertise required to provide high quality vaccination.
  2. The course is accepted by the Medical Officers of Health as the basis for authorisation as an independent vaccinator.

Prerequisites:

  1. Current Annual Practising Certificate

Course Components:

1. Theory: 2 days. Some essential pre-course reading will be required as well as some 'homework' between Day 1 and Day 2.

2. Test: 1 hour - open book – 2006 Immunisation Handbook only. Participants can negotiate with a course facilitator for an oral examination in English or Te Reo. Speakers of English as a second language can be allowed extra time if needed.

3. Clinical Assessment: A course facilitator will assess each participant doing 2 vaccinations. One on one mentoring prior to the clinical assessment is offered for new vaccinators.

A certificate will be issued on successful completion of all components of the course.

All participants are expected to complete all components of the course within six months.

Recognition of Prior Learning:

WONS recognise that some participants may have attended previous 'special' vaccination courses e.g. vaccination of adults, MeNZ B school based programme, Influenza vaccination. Exemption from some of the VTC course sessions may be negotiated with the Course Manager prior to the course, on provision of appropriate evidence.

2 day Vaccinator Training Course $70.00 GST incl. Subsidised by the Ministry of Health
2 day Vaccinating Adults Only Course, and clinical assessment $500.00 GST incl. Not subsidised by the Ministry of Health

For clinical assessments that have not been completed within 6 months a fee of $100.00 GST inclusive will be payable at the time of assessment.

Withdrawals and Refunds

  • A place on a course will be secured only on receipt of full payment.
  • Withdrawal from a course more than 2 weeks before the course commencement will result in the refund of the amount paid less a $10 (GST inclusive) administration fee.
  • Withdrawal from a course within 2 weeks of its commencement will result in no refund.
  • All withdrawals should be made in writing, by fax, email or letter.
  • Please inform WONS of your withdrawal from a course as soon as possible to enable the place to be offered to others.
  • Cancellation by WONS of a course before or during the course will result in a full refund of the amount paid.

Please Note Also:

  • Courses are restricted to 25 people.
  • If you intend to vaccinate adults only, you should attend the course for Vaccinators of Adults only
  • WONS reserves the right to cancel any course that is not adequately supported.
  • Priority will be given to nurses giving vaccines on the National Immunisation Schedule.
  • Morning and afternoon tea provided – you will need to organise your own lunch.
  • Please arrive on time. People arriving more than 30 minutes late may not be admitted.
