The Cartwright enquiry at National Women's Hospital recommended appropriate, affordable and accessible cervical screening services for the women of Auckland.
Nurses working with the Auckland District Health Board recognised the need and established the organization using the holistic framework of well women. The umbrella over WONS symbolises a commitment to independent nursing practice.
With this in mind WONS has gained funding for:
- Women's health clinics offering affordable nursing
consultations on a range of women’s health issues from periods,
PMS, menopause, bladder control, cervical smear tests and
breast checks.
- Wahine Hauora Kete: An adult education tool on women's health
- Free cervical smear tests and well woman checks for women who meet a certain criteria (women can also access our service for a fee)
- Health Promotion on a range of women's health issues from periods to menopause, osteoporosis, contraception and much more
- Cervical screening health promotion for the community and health professionals
- Breast Screening health promotion
